Sagitta / Browser modernization

A future beyond Internet Explorer.

The challenge

Sagitta, a 30-year-old Vertafore insurance product with more than 1,000 pages, only worked in Internet Explorer. Its retirement put continued access to the product at risk.

My contribution

  • Defined the VBScript-to-JavaScript conversion approach, implemented the first pages and resolved IE-specific CSS behavior so other teams could continue the migration.
  • Reorganized the architecture, updated the visual design and initiated the React migration, building the first pages and setting the approach up so other teams could pick it up and continue.

The result

Kept the product usable beyond IE and established a repeatable React migration approach that other delivery teams could adopt.

Sagitta / Architecture

Challenging an agreed decision.

The challenge

An enterprise product built by seven teams of five engineers across Ukraine, India and the US. The agreed approach kept tokens in the ASP business layer and was estimated at 18 months to implement.

My contribution

  • Identified that navigation bypassing the custom code, including page refresh and the browser's Back and Forward buttons, would cause token loss.
  • Challenged the decision after it had been agreed and proposed the standard token management most web applications use. The approach was changed.

The result

Delivered in six months instead of the estimated 18, saving a year of work for seven teams. Page refresh and browser navigation worked correctly.

Antelu / Public website & CMS

The challenge

A children's vehicle-rental business needed a multilingual catalogue with clear enquiry routes and a way to manage vehicles and photos without editing source files.

My contribution

  • Built the Next.js and TypeScript site in Spanish, Galician, English and Ukrainian, with catalogue filters, vehicle pages and direct phone/WhatsApp enquiries.
  • Integrated Sveltia CMS for vehicles and gallery photos, with image optimization on upload and content validation before publishing.

The result

Vehicles and photos can be maintained in a browser-based editor. Changes are versioned in Git and deployed through validated builds, without a separate content database.

AI-assisted engineering

AI agents with clear handoffs. People make the calls.

I returned to Sagitta in July 2026: migrating a product with more than 1,000 pages to React one page at a time would have taken years. We generalized the Agency One components and shared application logic, then I configured GitHub Copilot agents for analysis, implementation and review.

Combining the stronger shared foundation with AI-assisted development cut typical page delivery time, including testing and review, from about a month to between a few days and three weeks, depending on complexity.

    Senior Full-Stack Developer

    EPAM Systems Sagitta / AI-assisted modernization

    Returned to Sagitta to explore AI-assisted delivery: migrating a product with more than 1,000 pages to React one page at a time would have taken years. Strengthened the shared foundation and existing React pages before introducing agents to accelerate implementation and review.

    Highlights (6)
    • With the team, generalized the Agency One components already adapted for Sagitta, encapsulating common behavior so teams could reuse application logic as well as UI instead of rebuilding page-specific solutions.
    • Improved schema-driven forms, editable drawers and paginated grids; extracted shared bulk-action hooks and API helpers while preserving business rules.
    • Corrected C# and ASP.NET Core API behavior, repository logic and data mappings behind save failures, date conversions and inconsistent values.
    • Implemented masked credential reveal and replacement, claims-based permissions and multi-factor authentication configuration; corrected React Query caching and persisted table preferences.
    • Configured GitHub Copilot agents and repository instructions for analysis, design, implementation and review, with explicit handoffs, build/test checks and human review gates.
    • Compared legacy and React behavior with AI assistance and produced separate product-owner and developer reports; added Jest and React Testing Library regression coverage.

    Started with front-end architecture consulting on Import Tool: assessed the design, delivered improvements and a prioritized roadmap, then worked with other engineers to integrate it with Certificates Platform. Owned document generation, download/import handling and in-app PDF previews, stabilizing failures across the flow. Coordinated AI-assisted Playwright test improvements and code reviews across teams, and handed ongoing delivery to the team before returning to Sagitta.

    Built a reusable component library and shared top navigation that participating products integrated with their authentication token. Enabled users to move between products without another login while carrying customer and policy context. Moved to the next assignment after the product stabilized.

    Reorganized the architecture and initiated the React migration. Defined the VBScript conversion and React approaches and built the first pages so other teams could pick them up and continue. Improved CI/CD speed by over 200%, reduced builds from ~40s to 15–18s and redundant renders from nine to one. Shipped API endpoints and hotfixes for legacy database integration, and challenged the token-management decision that threatened browser navigation.
